The Manager of Engineering and Trades is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing the facilities operations and maintenance of the entire school district. This role requires experience in managing
general trades and licensed personnel, as well as handling union staff. The Manager of Engineering and Trades will also be responsible for budget management and client-facing communication.
Pay: $105k - $125k

Key Responsibilities:
- Facilities Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of all facilities within the school district, including buildings, grounds, and equipment. Ensure that all facilities are maintained in a safe, functional, and efficient manner.
- Maintenance Management: Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program for the district, including preventive maintenance, reactive maintenance, and repairs. Coordinate with internal and external resources to ensure timely and effective completion of maintenance
- Trades Management: Manage and supervise the general trades and licensed personnel responsible for maintenance, repairs, and Provide guidance, training, and support to the team to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.
- Union Staff Relations: Collaborate with union representatives and adhere to collective bargaining agreements to maintain positive relationships and ensure compliance with labor requirements. Address employee concerns, grievances, and disciplinary matters in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the facilities department budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring expenditures, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Ensure that financial resources are allocated effectively to meet operational needs and maintain fiscal responsibility.
- Client-Facing Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for client communication regarding facilities operations. Provide regular updates, address concerns, and maintain a high level of customer service to meet the needs of the school community.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to facilities management, including safety codes, environmental regulations, and licensing requirements. Keep abreast of industry standards and best practices to maintain compliance and promote continuous improvement.
- Vendor Management: Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure quality service delivery. Negotiate contracts, oversee service agreements, and monitor performance to ensure the highest level of service at competitive costs.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with district leadership to develop long-term plans and goals for facilities management. Provide input and recommendations on capital improvement projects, energy conservation initiatives, and sustainability efforts.
- Team Leadership: Lead and motivate the facilities team, fostering a positive work environment, and promoting professional development. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related Advanced degree or professional certifications are a plus.
- Extensive experience in facilities management, preferably in an educational or public sector
- Strong knowledge of building systems, trades, and maintenance
- Demonstrated experience in managing unionized staff and familiarity with collective bargaining
- Proven budget management skills, including experience in forecasting, cost control, and financial
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, staff, and stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with a focus on promoting a positive work culture and achieving results through collaboration.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety standards, and environmental sustainability
- Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications.
